Advocacy Committee Chair
I was born and raised in Queens, NY and attended college in Boston, at Boston University. I then returned to New York State to attend medical school at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY, ending in Rochester to complete my pediatric residency.
After completing a chief resident year, I joined Portland Pediatrics, based in Irondequoit. We have just opened a new office in Webster and I will be the primary pediatrician at that office. I work 4 full days a week and occasional weekends.
In residency, I was part of the CARE (Child Advocacy Resident Education) track. As a participant in the two year CARE track, I developed a project focusing on early childhood home visitation. One aspect I looked at was the ability for early childhood nurse home visitation to reduce subsequent rates of child abuse. In addition, I collaborated with a college student on a random digit dial telephone survey to assess the community’s attitude toward nurse home visitation and its potential to decrease rates of child abuse.
Over the past two years, I have become more involved in PLC (Pediatric Links with the Community) by leading legislative advocacy training sessions for all the residents training in PLC. I started this during my chief year and have continued to lead these sessions this year in private practice. These are hour long sessions in which residents learn about various advocacy resources that they can utilize.
Now that I am in private practice, I am looking forward to more opportunities to become involved in the community.
