Media contacts

Please contact: Anna Potter, Program Manager at 585-935-7800. You may also reach her by email at: apotteratBivonaCAC [dot] org. Bivona staff and partners are uniquely qualified to comment on stories regarding child sexual and physical abuse as well as neglect issues. We can provide expert commentary on the physical and emotional effects of abuse, how the law operates, and of course, the role that Bivona plays in local child abuse investigations.

Awareness of child abuse is the first step in putting an end to this silent epidemic, so we encourage your coverage of the issue.

Diana Jones - This critically-lauded Nashville folk singer and songwriter has been garnering significant national attention with the releases of her last two albums, Better Times Will Come (2009) and My Remembrance of You (2006). Writing about the latter, Bill Friskics-Warren wrote in his New York Times review, “…Better Times Will Come, her unvarnished new album, marks both the culmination of this process and the arrival of a fresh and distinctive voice….She sings of the hard times, murderous urges and chilling loneliness that haunt the old Anglo-Celtic ballads but, with one exception, sets her plain-spoken narratives resolutely in the present…" Diana has won numerous awards, been featured on Mountain Stage, and had songs recorded by other artists, including by Joan Baez on her recent Grammy-nominated album. Diana will open the show, her first ever in Rochester, with a 60 minute set.

Rhett Miller - Side-by-side his work as the lead singer and songwriter in the Alt-Country band the Old 97’s, Rhett Miller has developed a highly successful career as a solo artist in his own right. With an incredible knack for combining keen lyrical imagery with unforgettable melodies, Rhett Miller has established a catalogue of albums that, in terms of quality, stands up against any musician in popular music today. His most recent solo effort, aptly titled Rhett Miller (2009), received a four-star review in Rolling Stone Magazine, who described the album as "his strongest solo work yet." Rhett Miller’s literate songwriting, as well as his ability to draw upon country, pop and rock and roll influences, truly set him apart. As a live performer, few musicians match Rhett’s dynamic energy and charisma. Rhett is co-headlining the event and will play a 90 minute, solo set. This is Rhett’s first solo performance in Rochester.

The Bottle Rockets - Call them Americana, roots music, or southern rock. I prefer to call them one of the best rock & roll bands in music today. Since 1992, The Bottle Rockets have been telling stories about often over-looked Americans in a way that combines musical genres, thoughtful lyrics, with the proverbial "twinkle in the eye." Lean Forward (2009), their most recent release, received three and a half starts in Rolling Stone Magazine. Of Lean Forward, All Music Magazine wrote, “A solid home run that confirms the Bottle Rockets are still one of America’s great unsung rock & roll bands.” The Bottle Rockets have appeared on Late Night with Conan O’Brien, have had many of their songs covered by other artists including John Hiatt, and are featured in the PBS Documentary The Mississippi River Of Song: The Grassroots of American Music. The Bottle Rockets are co-headlining the event and will play a 90 minute set.

About Bivona Child Advocacy Center

Bivona Child Advocacy Center, a non-profit organization, is a safe, welcoming place where children who have been sexually or physically abused can begin their journey to recovery. Bivona staff facilitate an under-one-roof collaboration of social and legal agencies to protect, treat and counsel child victims and their families, and to investigate and prosecute the abusers. Bivona provides a compassionate, efficient, cost-effective infrastructure for child abuse intervention.

Bivona Child Advocacy Center is the only agency in the Greater Rochester community to provide these services. More than 1,000 children are helped at the Center each year. Although Bivona receives some government funding, the majority of its support comes from donors. Bivona Child Advocacy Center is an accredited member of the National Children’s Alliance (nca-online.org). The Bivona Child Advocacy Center has quickly become a resource to the community for all issues related to child sexual abuse. For more information, please visit www.BivonaCAC.org.
