'Open That Bottle Night' to Raise Funds for Local Child Abuse Victims

ROCHESTER, NEW YORK- February 27, 2010

The Bivona Child Advocacy Center will host its 5th annual Open That Bottle Night event tonight at 6:00 pm at Locust Hill Country Club in Pittsford.

Over 350 supporters of the Bivona Child Advocacy Center and representatives of the organization’s partner agencies will attend the signature event which focuses on wine, food, travel and sports. The event includes a silent and live auction featuring elite items and special packages, wine tasting, dinner and "Open That Bottle” where guests bring a bottle of wine to open and share with their table. Among those attending are Senator Jim Alesi and Assemblyman David Koon.

Open That Bottle Night has served as one of the key fundraising efforts for the Bivona Child Advocacy Center. Over the last four years this event has raised a total of $600,000 allowing Bivona to provide services to 5,200 children who have been sexually and physically abused. The goal for this year’s event is to raise over $130,000.

Again this year, attendees can purchase “Wish List” items for Bivona and its partner agencies such as therapeutic books and games for children, anatomical dolls used to enhance forensic interviews, a group therapy session for a child, a digital video recorder used during investigations and car seats necessary when transporting a child to Bivona for an interview.

The Bivona Child Advocacy Center utilizes a unique approach to helping abused children and their families. A child and his/her family can come to Bivona and receive all of the necessary investigative, evaluation and treatment services at one child friendly state-of-the-art facility.

About Bivona Child Advocacy Center

Bivona Child Advocacy Center, a non-profit organization, is a safe, welcoming place where children who have been sexually or physically abused can begin their journey to recovery. Bivona staff facilitate an under-one-roof collaboration of social and legal agencies to protect, treat and counsel child victims and their families, and to investigate and prosecute the abusers. Bivona provides a compassionate, efficient, cost-effective infrastructure for child abuse intervention.

Bivona Child Advocacy Center is the only agency in the Greater Rochester community to provide these services. More than 1,000 children are helped at the Center each year. Although Bivona receives some government funding, the majority of its support comes from donors. Bivona Child Advocacy Center is an accredited member of the National Children’s Alliance (nca-online.org).
